Man found guilty for 2011 shooting in SLC park

SALT LAKE CITY – A 57-year-old man has been found guilty of murder in the shooting death of a man at Riverside Park in Salt Lake City.

Francisco Alverez was convicted of first-degree felony murder in connection with the May 2011 death of 29-year-old Jorge Veracruz.

Officers say Alverez and Veracruz were hanging out and drinking in Riverside Park the night of May 5, 2011. They say the two got into an argument and as Veracruz was walking away, Alverez fired three shots at him.

His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 4 where he faces up to life in prison.
