TOOELE, Utah — A car rolled over due to icy conditions near Tooele and killed one passenger and seriously injured the driver early Sunday morning.

Lawrence Hooper, Utah Highway Patrol trooper, said the accident happened at 5:07 a.m. as the vehicle was traveling east bound on I-80 near mile marker 23.

The driver lost control of the vehicle because of icy conditions, and the car went off the road to the left and rotated nearly 180 degrees before coming to a rest on its roof.

A 24-year-old female passenger wasn’t wearing her seatbelt. She was ejected from the vehicle and died. The 33-year-old male driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
