The American Veterinary Medical Association has released a list of states with the highest and lowest pet ownership rates.
Utah comes in last place for cat ownership, with only 24.6% of households owning a cat. New Jersey, Louisiana, Illinois, and Georgia round out the top five for least cats.
Utah also ranked in the bottom five states for dog ownership, with 29.4%. Massachusetts came in first for least amount of dogs at 23.6%.
While Utah ranked at the bottom for states, the District of Columbia had far lower dog and cat ownership than any state.
