Documentary honors heroes behind badges

FARMINGTON, Utah -- The Farmington Police Department is promoting a documentary that celebrates the heroes in law enforcement and the sacrifices they make in the line of duty.

The documentary “Heroes Behind the Badge” is the work of The National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund and Modern City Entertainment. Ogden officer Jared Francom, who was killed while executing a drug warrant last year, is one of the officers honored by the group.

Dave Edwards, president of the Davis County lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the sacrifices of law enforcement personnel should be remembered often, not just during hard times.

He said: "Why do we have to wait for a tragedy to get together like this to honor these heroes, to honor these men, and to have this time for our community? And we looked for an opportunity to do that when there wasn't a time of tragedy."

Jade Francom, Jared Francom’s father, said he is grateful for the organization’s help.

"I can't thank them enough for all that they're doing to help our family get back to Washington D.C. for the national law enforcement memorial in May," he said.

The Ogden City Police department recently renamed their public safety building in Francom’s honor. Matthew David Stewart is accused of murdering Francom, and he may get the death penalty if convicted.
