BRIGHTON, Utah – A snowboarder is dead after a crash at Brighton Ski Resort on Wednesday evening.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal say a skier at the resort spotted a snowboarder wrapped around a tree and notified emergency crews.

Hoyal says the snowboarder was on a groomed slope but somehow drifted to the edge of the slope and crashed into the tree.

Ski patrol brought 26-year-old David Sitek down to the resort’s clinic and tried to revive him, but were unsuccessful.

A state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine whether Sitek suffered a medical problem that caused him to crash into the tree.
