(ST. LOUIS)– St. Louis-area Panera Bread cafes started offering a “pay-what-you-want” program this week, called “Meal of Shared Responsibility.”
If you order Turkey Chili in a bread bowl, you have three customer pay options. First, a customer may pay the suggested amount. Second, if a customer has the means, they may pay more to help cover the cost of the meal for someone who cannot afford to pay. Third, if a customer has a real need, they may pay what they can.
There is a similar program in Salt Lake City called One World Everybody Eats.
