Utah teen held on $3.5M bail after alleged DUI homicide

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY – A Utah teen accused of killing five people in a crash while driving drunk is being held on $3.5 million bail in Nevada.

18-year-old Jean Ervin Soriano was arrested early Saturday morning after Nevada Highway Patrol say he rear-ended a van 80 miles north of Las Vegas.

Seven family members were inside the van. Five were ejected and killed.

“Five counts of DUI resulting in a death. Two counts DUI alcohol resulting in substantial bodily harm. One count of failure to use due care. And one count driving without a valid driver’s license,” said Judge Ruth Kolhoss. “The court is going to order a half a million per count for counts one through seven.”

The five people killed in the crash were not wearing seat belts. It is unknown whether the other two were belted.
