SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has found a Unified Police officer’s use of deadly force legally justified.
On March 17, an officer with the Unified Police Dept. conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle where Sergio Garcia, Jr., was a passenger. The officer says Garcia got out of the car and allegedly brandished a shotgun at the officer, who then fired several shots at Garcia before Garcia ran.
Police later found Garcia hiding next to a garage, where he was bitten by a police dog and arrested.
Garcia was treated for minor injuries and booked on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and various weapons charges.
The officer was not injured.
