MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE, Weber County, Utah - Weber County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a case of alcohol poisoning after a 4-year-old girl was found unconscious.
Police say a woman in Marriott-Slaterville called 911 at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday when she found her 4-year-old daughter unresponsive.
"They were unable to ascertain what exactly was wrong with the child and the child was transported to McKay-Dee hospital," said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther.
The girl was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital where medical tests indicated high levels of alcohol in her system. She was then transported to Primary Children's Medical Center in critical condition. By Friday afternoon, she was in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Deputies are now trying to determine how the alcohol poisoning occurred.
"Right now, we're conducting interviews and conducting an investigation with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services to try to find out what happened," Lowther said.
Lowther says the girl has special needs and requires home health care.
