School until 6 p.m.? Yes, if you live in certain parts of New York.
A new program announced by city officials in NYC will keep some students in the classroom for as many as 2.5 hours later than normal.
Twenty middle schools are signed up so far. They’ll add the extra instruction for about 2,000 sixth-graders.
“Often students who lose their way in school start to fall off track in the middle grades. It’s where the achievement gap really seems to grow,” City Council Speaker Christine Quinn told the New York Daily News.
