SALT LAKE CITY — Plans were announced Tuesday for two new hotels in downtown Salt Lake City that will be built near Energy Solutions Arena.
The two hotels will both be built on 3 and ¼ acres of land on the corner 100 South and 300 West, which is adjacent to Energy Solutions Arena.
The first hotel will be a 159-room extended-stay Hyatt House Hotel, which is estimated to cost about $19.4 million to build. The second is a 175-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel.
Eric Shaw, Salt Lake City director of community and economic development, said the hotels will be an asset to downtown Salt Lake City.
“It’s not about size, it’s about having a quality of design, and that’s once again an understanding of working with our planning department, our urban designers, working with re-development agencies, consultants—we’re really going to make sure that it fits in and improves the character and builds upon sort of the design vibrancy of downtown,” he said.
The two hotels will share a 349-space parking garage, and both will have ground level retail spaces available. The extended-stay Hyatt is expected to be finished by fall of 2014. The Courtyard by Marriott is expected to be completed by Spring of 2015.
