SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Highway Patrol is teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to keep people safe on the roads this Memorial Day weekend.

UHP officials said they are adding an extra 300 shifts throughout the state this weekend as many Utahns head out of town for the holiday.

Melissa Larkin, Chairwoman for MADD Utah, said holidays can be some of the most dangerous times to be on the road.

“Our roads can be very unsafe day or night, but especially on these holiday weekends –they can be very dangerous,” she said. “So it’s very important that we have our DUI squad out there doing the extra man-power."

UHP troopers will be focusing the extra personnel on DUI, speeding, drivers not wearing seatbelts, and drowsy or distracted drivers.
