SALT LAKE CITY – A man was taken to an emergency room Sunday after he was allegedly stabbed by his father in University of Utah housing.
Sgt. Mike Richards, University of Utah Police, said the call initially came in as a domestic violence dispute but escalated from there.
Officers responded to the 800 Court of the University Village and found a 28-year-old man lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds.
Richards said officers noticed the suspect nearby and a short pursuit of about 50 yards followed.
"The suspect was 60 years old, and the officer was rather young," Richards said.
Police arrested Forghan Ghodrati in connection with the stabbing. Ghodrati had some head wounds, which Richards said may have been self-inflicted.
The victim was transported to a hospital and initially listed in critical condition, but Richards said the victim was upgraded to stable condition.
“The victim was checked on and had multiple stab wounds," he said. "The victim right now is in the emergency room, and my understanding is he has been in surgery."
Richards said the suspect and the victim are Iranian, and their primary language is Farsi, which has made communication difficult.
Richards said it is not clear if the victim was a University of Utah student, but he said they believe his wife may be a student.
