BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah – Search and rescue crews safely recovered a 14-year-old boy who was stranded on a cliff in Big Cottonwood Canyon Monday.

Lt. Justin Hoyal, Unified Police Department, said the boy and his father were stuck in traffic after an earlier search and rescue operation in the area closed the road. The family left their car to see what the delay was. The boy decided to start climbing, and he became stranded on the cliff, which is approximately 200-feet tall.

Hoyal said an off-duty officer spotted the boy stuck on the ledge around 8:30 p.m. He said the boy was safely on the ground sometime around 10:30 p.m.
