UTAH LAKE – Search and rescue crews were dispatched to Utah Lake Saturday after someone called 911 and reported that a boat with children aboard had capsized, but the search was called off when the report could not be verified.
Crews performed an extensive search for about three hours with six watercraft and some aircraft, but officials said as of shortly before 10 p.m. there were no signs of a capsized boat, so the search was ended.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon, Utah County Sheriff’s Office, said they received a 911 call around 7 p.m. about the capsized boat and reports of people, including children, in the water. Police were unable to locate the person who made the report.
Police said they did not receive any calls from friends or family members who were concerned about loved ones not returning from the lake, and they did not see any signs of a capsized boat during their search.
