WEST VALLEY CITY – The actions of an officer who shot an armed man inside the West Valley City Police Department in April have been ruled justified.
James Kammeyer, 39, pulled out a handgun while speaking with an officer inside the police station on April 29. Other officers responded, and one of them fired multiple shots and hit Kammeyer twice in his right arm.
The West Valley City Police Department released footage of the incident, which can be seen in the video above.
Kammeyer reportedly told police he wanted to die by suicide by cop.
The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office sent a letter Monday, which said the office “…has determined the use of deadly force by an officer involved in the April 29th incident at the West Valley City Police Department Station was legally justified after conducting a routine Officer Involved Critical Incident (OICI) investigation.”
Kammeyer had been in trouble with the law before the incident in April.
