SALT LAKE CITY - Police are looking for a man they say tried to steal some alcohol from the State Liquor Store in Sandy and carjack a woman in a nearby parking lot.
Sandy Police Sgt. Jon Arnold said the suspect threw a paver brick through the window of the State Liquor Store in Sandy, located at 125 West and 9000 South, just after 2 a.m. on June 23. He entered the store, ran through and grabbed a couple bottles of alcohol before running back out.
The suspect ran west through the parking lot of the nearby Club 90 where he allegedly tried to carjack a female employee who was leaving work.
"Ran up to her and because he was holding the bottles, was trying to push her into the car and pushing her across the seat so he could get in with her. She fought against him and started yelling for her boyfriend who was in the area," Arnold said.
Arnold said the suspect then ran away and, as he was running, dropped the alcohol bottles. The woman wasn't physically hurt, but police say she is shaken up.
Detectives have been looking for the man ever since, but haven't had any success. Fortunately he was caught on camera and now they're hoping the public can help identify him.
"We're talking multiple felony charges for several, small bottles of alcohol. And on top of that he was on candid camera," Arnold said.
The man is white, probably in his early 20s, between 5-foot-9-inches and 6-feet tall with a medium build.
