According to the Beer Institute, the Beehive state drinks the least amount of beer per capita. They say Utah residents (of legal drinking age) drank about 20.2 gallons of beer on average last year, compared to North Dakota, where residents drank 45.8 gallons of beer last year. Bart Watson, chief economist at the Brewers Association, told Yahoo that Utah’s low rate is due to the large Mormon population and “restrictive alcohol regulations.”
