SALT LAKE CITY -- About 27,000 people are expected to attend the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market convention this week in Salt Lake City.

The convention, which is not open to the general public, is the largest of its kind, with more than 1,300 exhibitors participating this year.

Representatives from the makers of outdoor gear, clothing, footwear and other outdoor sports products have the chance to network with others in the industry and participate in a variety of seminars and events.

The Salt Palace Convention Center is packed with booths and the demand for space forced organizers to open three tents in the parking lot to accommodate exhibitors' needs.

Organizers said a shortage of hotel rooms in the Salt Lake City area has been another challenge, forcing some attendees to travel to places like Ogden for hotel accommodations.

The biannual convention is expected to remain in Salt Lake City through 2016, but organizers may need to seek an alternative location after that due to the convention's popularity and growth.
