MILLCREEK, Utah – One man is in custody after an armed robbery at a drug store in Millcreek Friday.
The robbery took place at a Walgreens located at 4515 South 900 East shortly after noon.
Lt. Justin Hoyal, Unified Police Department, said the suspect walked into the store and grabbed a shirt off of a nearby rack and used it to cover a handgun. The man then went to the pharmacy and handed the pharmacist a note demanding several different prescriptions. The man fled after the pharmacist gave him the pills.
Hoyal said officers were able to apprehend the suspect after setting up containment in the area.
“Our officers were actually able to locate the suspect jumping fences,” Hoyal said. “One of our detectives tried to take him into custody, in which a brief struggle had taken place, the suspect was able to get away. Meanwhile, as he’s running from our detective, he’s throwing pills out of his pockets, and several other officers arrived in the area to assist and were able to get the suspect into custody.”
There were no reported injuries. Police have taken the suspect in for questioning, and his name has not been released.
