Study: Yelling as Hurtful as Hitting

(FOX 8) — Yelling at adolescents can be damaging and leads to an increased risk of depression and aggressive behavior, a recent study found, as reported in the Wall Street Journal.

Those are some of the same effects as hitting.

The study was done by researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Michigan and published on the journal Child Development’s website.

According to the findings, shouting makes problem behavior worse. Taking away privileges is more effective.
