COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – A child was taken into the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services after the child’s mother allegedly attempted to sell the baby while under the influence of drugs.

Police said Tuesday night multiple witness reported a woman who was ranting and raving in the area of 2300 East and 6995 South and was trying to sell her 10-month-old baby for $50.

Sgt. Gary Young, Cottonwood Heights Police Department, said the woman was allegedly in a drug induced psychosis caused by methamphetamine.

The mother was taken to a hospital, and the child was taken to the Christmas Box House before it was taken into the custody of DCFS.

Young said the woman will not be charged, but she will undergo a mental evaluation. Young said police have encountered the woman before, and he said the baby had been taken from the mother in the past because the woman’s parenting skills were in question.
