SANDY, Utah – Two Canyons School District schools were sheltering in place Wednesday at the request of law enforcement personnel.
Authorities notified parents who had students at Peruvian Park and Silver Mesa Elementary that the schools had been placed on a shelter-in-place status and that students would stay in the building until cleared by law enforcement.
The notice to parents went out just before 3 p.m.
Unified Police Department officials said a resident at a home in the area saw a man with a gun and another man with a crowbar on her back porch, and the resident called police. The suspects did not try to break into the home, and they fled. The schools were put into a shelter-in-place status while police searched for the two male suspects.
The students were cleared to leave the building shortly after.
Silver Mesa Elementary is located at 8920 South 1700 East. Peruvian Park Elementary is located at 1545 East 8425 South.
