BIRDSEYE, Utah — The National Transportation Safety Board has issued a preliminary report in a plane crash that killed one man here.
The findings reveal an electrical fire inside the Cessna 172 that killed 50-year-old Gerald Wilson of Orem.
“Examination revealed that a supplemental electrical system installed to provide power for the radar equipment and associated test equipment had overheated and began to burn,” the report, obtained by FOX 13, said.
The report said the pilot of the aircraft had tried to make an emergency landing on U.S. 89 but there was a power line in the way. The NTSB’s preliminary report said the pilot attempted to pull the plane up to avoid the power line, but it clipped and the aircraft crashed.
The NTSB is expected to issue a final report in the coming months.
