MIDVALE, Utah -- Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly attempted to rob a Midvale motel Friday morning.

Officers said around 1:30 a.m. a man with a gun walked into a Super 8 Motel at 7048 South and 900 East. They said as the suspect approached the front desk he fired a shot that just missed the clerk. The clerk opened the till for the suspect. When the suspect saw that the till was empty he ran off.

The clerk was not harmed during the robbery. Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the situation could have been much worse.

"You never know what can come about with those situations, but when somebody's got a gun, they've fire it around at you, it very well could have a different outcome if you try to fight or argue with the suspect," Hoyal said.

Unified Police did shut down surrounding streets to search for the suspect, but there was no sign of him.

The suspect is described as between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a dark gray or black hooded sweatshirt. Officers consider the suspect armed and dangerous.

If you have any information on the suspect, call Unified Police at (801) 743-7000.
