EAGLE MOUNTAIN — An Eagle Mountain boy died Monday morning after accidentally hanging himself on an indoor swing in his home, Utah County officials said.
Orion Gunderson, 11, was playing on the swing Sunday at about 11:30 a.m. in the basement of his home when he became entangled and could not free himself, said Sgt. Spencer Cannon, spokesman for Utah County Sheriff’s Office.
A younger brother told their father something wasn’t right with his older brother. Gunderson’s father called 911 immediately after he found his son hanging, Cannon said.
Medical responders administered CPR and the child was transported to American Fork Hospital. Gunderson was then flown to Primary Children’s Medical Center in extremely critical condition.
Cannon said there was nothing suspicious about the case – it appeared to be an accident.
The family will hold the funeral services Wednesday. Friends and family are raising money for the Gundersons to help pay for medical and funeral expenses.
