PROVO, Utah — It was a triumphant return for senior linebacker Spencer Hadley and a record-tying night for senior receiver Cody Hoffman as BYU defeated Georgia Tech 38-20 on Saturday.
Hadley rejoined the team after serving three games of a five-game suspension. On Wednesday, the University informed head coach Bronco Mendenhall that Hadley had earned a two-game reduction of his suspension for an Honor Code violation.
He responded with several key plays on defense, including a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter.
Hoffman finished the game with five catches for 99 yards and his first touchdown of the season. His final catch tied him with former tight end Dennis Pitta for the lead in career receptions at BYU. After the game, both Hoffman and Mendenhall said they were unaware of Hoffman’s achievement. When told during the post-game press conference, Mendenhall called it, “awesome”.
BYU will play an all-Cougars road game next weekend at Houston.
