SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz received some bad news Monday– rookie point guard Trey Burke will sit out the first part of the 2013-14 NBA season due to an injury.

The Jazz organization announced that the point guard will have to sit out 8 to 12 weeks due to a broken finger he sustained during Utah’s Oct. 12 preseason game against the L.A. Clippers.

The Jazz traded up to select Burke as the ninth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft in June. The 6-foot, 187 pound guard was named the NCAA’s most outstanding player last season, and received the Wooden Award.

Burke is expected to have surgery on his right fractured index finger Tuesday.
