Lawmaker Proposes Bill to Castrate Child Predators

Posted

MONTGOMERY, AL — An Alabama lawmaker is proposing a bill for the 2014 legislative session that would include a much harsher punishment for convicted child predators before they are released from prison.

According to FOX 10, the bill proposed by Republican Rep. Steve Hurst would require convicted sex offenders to be surgically castrated before they are released. The bill only applies to those over the age of 21 whose victims were 12-years-old or younger.

The offender would also be required to finance the procedure.

Rep. Hurst started pushing for tougher laws after a one-year-old boy was sexually tortured and abused by his father.

Hurst told FOX 10 that weaker punishments were only allowing offenders to re-offend.
