LOGAN, Utah -- A River Heights woman faces a felony criminal homicide charge in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son.

Heidi Marie Rutchey was booked into the Cache County Jail Thursday and is scheduled for arraignment Friday.

On September 4, Rutchey checked herself into the emergency department at Logan Regional Hospital for "a number of medical issues," a press release from the Cache County Sheriff's Office said.

During the course of Rutchey's treatment, suspicion was raised about the whereabouts and welfare of Rutchey's son, Eli.

The hospital contacted the Cache County Sheriff's Office, and deputies responded to Rutchey's home.

Deputies met another family member, the press release said, and found Eli's body.

An autopsy on Eli's body was performed by the Utah State Office of the Medical Examiner, and investigators gathered information and evidence leading to Rutchey's arrest.

The case has been turned over to the Cache County Attorney's Office for prosecution.
