UTA announces new Enterprise CarShare program

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City and Enterprise Rent-A-Car  are teaming up to create a new CarShare program.

The program has been in Utah for a while, but UTA is revamping it and relaunching it with the help of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Salt Lake City, the University of Utah and Utah Valley University.

One problem commuters face when taking a bus or TRAX is when they get off at a UTA stop they still have several miles to go before they get to their destinations. The CarShare program will change that by providing rental cars at UTA stops.

The prices for the CarShare vehicles are as low as $5 per hour depending on the vehicle.

Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker said the new program will make things much more convenient for residents.

"It gives people more options for ways to get around without owning a car and driving as much," Becker said. "We do that with bike share, we do it with bike lanes, we do it with improved transit service, and having [the] CarShare program is having one more piece of the puzzle."
