MIDVALE, Utah – A group of Utahns with ties to the Philippines gathered to hold a fundraiser to help those who were in the path of the recent typhoon.
The event was held at the Hawaiian Cultural Center in Midvale Saturday, and the group raised money by selling authentic food, crafts and other items.
Those who attended sought to help those in the Philippines affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The group included those with family ties to the area as well as several people who served missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines.
Event organizer Matthew Hardin said they are reaching out to aid those they care about.
“We’re trying to help the people that we love,” he said. “It’s really tough to see the pictures and the videos, but like I said, we’d love to get our hands dirty, but we’re doing all that we can here.”
