SALT LAKE CITY—Brian Johnson, the winningest quarterback in Utah history and a Ute assistant coach since 2010, has accepted a position as quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State, the school announced today.
“We wish Brian all the best in his new position,” said Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham. “Brian has been a major contributor to the Utah football program as a player and a coach for many years.”
Whittingham has not announced a timetable for replacing Johnson, who has been the quarterbacks coach his entire coaching tenure at Utah. In 2012, at age 24, he became the youngest NCAA FBS offensive coordinator in the country. Last season, he shared the offensive coordinator title with Dennis Erickson while also coaching the quarterbacks.
