SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah –Police officials have identified Ryan A. Noorda as the victim killed in an avalanche Friday night.
The Honeyville man was trapped in an avalanche near Whitney Reservoir.
Sheriff Dave Edmunds of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office tweeted at 7:12 p.m. that search and rescue personnel who responded near Gold Hill Road off Mirror Lake Highway have confirmed the victim is deceased.
According to Edmunds’ tweets, the call of an avalanche came in at about 6 p.m.,and reports indicated a man was trapped in the slide. Noorda was“using a snowmobile at the time of the avalanche.” The victim is from a small northern Utah town and was with family at the time, Bridge said.
Ron Bridge of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the details of the tweets to FOX 13 News over the phone.
