KEARNS, Utah — A fire started in an abandoned house in Kearns Monday night.
Fire officials said the blaze started just after 11 p.m. near 4860 west 4960 south.
One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation in the process of putting out the fire. He is expected to be OK.
“He was outside at the time,” said Brian Anderton, Unified Fire Authority Battalion Chief. “With the shifting winds he found himself in some heavy smoke conditions. Prior to our arrival, law enforcement had evacuated the neighbors as a precaution.”
Fire officials said the damage to the home appears to be minimal. They said they believe the fire started in the attic. The cause is still under investigation.
