ELKO, Nev. – A man running for sheriff in a Nevada county is touting prison reform as his platform, and the man was arrested for an alleged DUI the same day he filed for office.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports that Ron Rylander was handcuffed and led to a police vehicle about an hour after he had finished filing to run for sheriff.
The 51-year-old man was reportedly booked into jail on third-offense DUI, driving with a suspended license, driving without proof of insurance and driving left of the center line.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports Rylander has said his “checkered past” gives him insight into the prison system, and he spoke prior to his arrest about his proposals for reform.
