NORTH SALT LAKE -- A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition after an accident on I-15 Sunday night.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers said the accident happened just before midnight when a man and a woman driving a car northbound on I-15 pulled over to change a flat tire.

Police said the man and woman, identified as Mailefihi Tua'one, 27, from West Valley City and Monte Keiaho, 25, from Logan, both exited the car. They said the two appeared to be entirely in the emergency lane.

Officers said a semi-truck pulling a single trailer was traveling northbound in the right lane when the trailer struck both Tua'one and Keiaho.

Tua'one was pronounced dead at the scene, and Keiaho was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the accident.
