SALT LAKE CITY -- Questar Gas is about to begin a series of construction projects to improve its infrastructure in downtown Salt Lake City.

The first phase of the construction, weather permitting, will occur along the following streets between April and August:

  • 1000 East from 300 South to 800 South
  • 900 East from 300 South to 500 South
  • 300 South and 500 South from 900 East to 1000 East

The company will be replacing several thousand feet of aging natural gas pipelines with high-strength, non-corrosive plastic pipe.

"These improvements will enable Questar Gas to keep pace with growing customer demand for natural gas, maintain overall system integrity and continue providing safe and reliable service," a statement from the company said.

The construction will force some temporary lane restrictions, especially at intersections, the statement said. Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes whenever possible.

Questar Gas does not anticipate any interruptions to residential gas service.

The second phase of the construction is scheduled for May through December on 400 S between 1000 E and State St.

The third phase is scheduled for June through July on Main St. from 100 S to 300 S.

Questar Gas plans to invest between $55 million and $65 million on infrastructure each year for the next 14 years
