KANSAS CITY– Real Salt Lake was missing three regular starters as they tried to stay unbeaten in 2014 while playing at the last place they lost a match.
In their first game against Sporting KC since losing the MLS Cup Championship in December, RSL got a huge performance from reserve keeper Jeff Attinella as he and the defense made save after save, playing to a 0-0 draw and remaining undefeated this season.
Defender Chris Wingert missed the game along with U.S. National team members Tony Beltran and starting keeper Nick Rimando. Kansas City came with an attacking game plan trying to take advantage of Rimando’s absence.
The strategy worked in so much as they had nine shots on goal compared to only one for Salt Lake. But Attinella and the rest of the defense kept all of those shots out of the net as the clubs settled for a draw.
