SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Aviation Hall of Fame inducted two new members this year, and this is the first time two members have been inducted in the same year.
Vern and Jessie Carter were husband and wife and were among the first pilots in Utah; the pair was inducted into the Hall of Fame Thursday and on Saturday an honorary plaque was unveiled at the Hill Air Force Base Aerospace Museum.
The pair owned and operated airports in Salt Lake City, Draper and Lehi, and they were inducted together in recognition of their contribution to aviation in the state. According to a press release from event organizers, thousands of students obtained their pilot’s license through the Carter Air Service.
