San Diego Police: Man arrested in connection with murders of 3 former Utah County residents

SAN DIEGO — A man was arrested Friday in connection to the deaths of three former Utah County residents, according to San Diego Police.

Carlo Gallopa Mercado, 29, was charged with the murders of Salvatore Belvedere, 22, and Ilona Flint, 22, last December, according to a press release from San Diego Police.

The release also states Mercado has been charged with the murder of Salvatore Belvedere’s brother, Gianni Belvedere, who was found in the trunk of a car in the city of Riverside Jan. 17.

Mercado was taken into custody at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday from the 8700 block of Westmore Road in San Diego and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.

Salvatore Belvedere and Flint were discovered in a vehicle near 1600 Camino Del Rio North in San Diego on Dec. 24. Both sustained gunshot wounds were pronounced dead, the release states.

Gianni Belvedere became a missing person the same day.
