MOAB, Utah – A 78-year-old woman is lucky to be alive after she was stuck in quicksand for about 14 hours.
The Grand County Sheriff’s office said the woman, whose identity hasn’t been confirmed, was reported missing July 9 when she didn’t show up for a book review at the library.
According to authorities, she was known to frequent the Courthouse Wash area just north of the river bridge.
Deputies found her car in the Courthouse Wash parking lot at about 9 p.m. July 9.
At about 11 p.m. crews from Arches National Park and the Grand County Search and Rescue Team found her about a quarter of a mile up the wash where she was mired in quicksand.
Deputies said she told them she got stuck at 9 a.m. that day.
Emergency crews said she was in good condition when she was rescued and is expected to recover.
