EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah — An Eagle Mountain man was arrested after setting fire to his home Friday night, according to Utah County officials Monday.

At approximately 11 p.m., Utah Valley Dispatch Special Service District received a call about a house fire in Eagle Mountain. Unified Fire Authority responded as well as Utah County Sheriff’s Office.

According to witnesses deputies spoke with, the blaze was lit intentionally by 34-year-old George Everton Maile.

Spencer Cannon, spokesman with the sheriff’s office, said Maile lived in the home with his family. No one was home at the time the fire was started.

Cannon said there was approximately $100,000 in damage to the house.

Cannon didn’t know where in the home the blaze was started or how it was ignited, but he said an accelerant was used.

Maile was found Saturday and arrested by South Jordan Police. He was booked into the Utah County Jail on aggravated arson, a first-degree felony.

His bail was set at $10,000 cash only.
