Friends, teammates hold fundraiser for family of teen run over while sunbathing

SYRACUSE, Utah -- Marli Hamblin died after she was accidentally run over by a family member who backed over the teen as she was sunbathing in a driveway, and now the girl's friends and teammates have come together to honor their friend and raise money for her family.

Hamblin was going to be a sophomore this upcoming school year, and she had earned a spot on the Syracuse High School varsity cheer squad. Members of the cheer team put together an event Saturday with the goal of raising funds for the Hamblin family and to and release balloons in honor of the teen.

FOX 13 News' Robert Boyd was at the event as volunteers were setting up, and he spoke to those in attendance about what Marli meant to them and about their efforts on her family's behalf. The fundraiser begins Saturday at 7 p.m. at Founder's Park. FOX 13 News will have more information after the event, tune in to FOX 13 News at 9 p.m. for the update.
