SALT LAKE CITY – The top two teams in Major League Soccer squared off Saturday afternoon at Rio Tinto Stadium, and Real Salt Lake came away with a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders.

The Sounders won the first match between the two teams 4-0 in Seattle, but it was a different story Saturday afternoon.

Things got started for RSL in the second half when Luke Mulholland sent a free kick Joao Plata’s way—who headed it in for a goal. This was Plata’s 11th goal of the season, and it put RSL up 1-0 in the 53rd minute.

Four minutes later, Plata wins the ball and passes it to Luis Gil, who lays it off for Mulholland—who scored. The score was ruled an own goal, with Ozzie Alonso of Seattle getting the final touch, but it still counted for Real Salt Lake.

Seattle scored in the 72nd Minute courtesy of Chad Barrett. The goal came after Nick Rimando made a save on a shot from Clint Dempsey.

RSL held Seattle off for the duration of the match to win 2-1. RSL now has the most points in MLS play with 42, one point ahead of the Sounders.
