Utah chooses Wilson over Oklahoma transfer Thompson as starting quarterback

SALT LAKE CITY – School is starting and you know what that means, football season is just around the corner.

The University of Utah announced Monday Travis Wilson will start as quarterback over Oklahoma transfer Kendal Thompson.

On the defensive side, coaches said three positions are still too close to call.

At left end, Jason Fanaika and Hunter Dimick are neck-and-neck.

There’s a three-way battle at nose tackle among Sese Ianu, Clint Shepard and Lowell Lotulelei.

At stud linebacker, Uaea Masina and Pita Taumoepenu are deadlocked.

On special teams, Kaelin Clay and Bubba Poole are currently listed co-starters at punt returner.

The annual Fan Fest featuring all 18 varsity athletic teams is free Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the Rice-Eccles Stadium south plaza.

Single-game tickets are available for all six home football games.
