SALT LAKE CITY — Bidding has opened for a convention center mega-hotel.
Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams’ office announced it was accepting bids to build the hotel near the Salt Palace. The proposed hotel would be 850-1,200 rooms.
From the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office:
No location for the hotel has been selected, McAdams spokeswoman Allyson Heyrend told FOX 13 on Wednesday. Prospective builders are expected to bid with a property in mind, she said, so taxpayers wouldn’t have to pay for downtown real estate.
The Utah State Legislature passed a bill earlier this year providing funding to help build a convention center hotel. McAdams’ office has claimed Salt Lake City has lost out on numerous conventions because it lacks a large enough hotel space.
