CLEARFIELD, Utah – Officials are investigating after a man was killed when he walked onto I-15 and was hit by a semi truck.
Officials with the Utah Highway Patrol stated later Thursday in a tweet: “Victim in ped vs semi last night has been identified by family as having a long history of mental illness and believe he was suicidal.”
According to police, the semi-truck was driving in the northbound lanes of I-15.
When the truck reached 7th S., there was a man on the road.
The driver told officers he couldn’t stop in time and hit the person standing in the right lane.
The semi was the only vehicle involved.
Officials said the driver was not injured and is cooperating in the investigation.
Authorities said the man who was hit died at the scene.
