WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A car crash in West Valley City caused a road closure and power outages for surrounding residents in the area of 3500 South and 5300 West, officials said Sunday.

At approximately 8 a.m., a man traveling west on 3500 South crossed into eastbound lanes. The driver then crashed into a telephone pole, a tree, ran through a yard and finally came to rest after he hit a butcher's shop, said Lt. Dalan Taylor with West Valley City police.

The man suffered minor injuries. Police suspect alcohol was involved.

The roadway opened up at about 1 p.m.

The accident did knock out power for residents living on the north side of 3500 South, but power was restored at 6:58 p.m.
