Update: South Jordan crash leaves 2 people dead

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah –Two people are dead after a collision on  Mountain View Highway Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at about noon. A 23-year-old Herriman woman was traveling west on Daybreak Parkway and a 46-year-old Sandy man in a tractor trailer was headed south on Mountain View Highway when their two vehicles collided, according to South Jordan police.

Due to the impact of the collision, both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. They were airlifted to area hospitals in extremely critical condition.

The victims died from their injuries.

The man and woman were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Mountain View Highway from Old Bingham Highway to 11800 South to Daybreak Parkway from 5500 West to 5200 West was closed until at least 7 p.m.

Names of the drivers have not been released pending notification of family.
